Minnesota artist Kim Norlien is best known for creating scenes of beauty with breathtaking realism. His masterful interplay of light and shadow celebrates the true, unblemished splendor of nature's wildlife and the beauty of the world around them.
Growing up in an entrepreneurial family, Kim had a creative spirit and a strong work ethic, which laid the foundation for his art career. He is an entirely self-taught painter and his full-time fine art career was launched in 1995. Since then, Kim has gone onto win numerous awards, duck stamps and has published over 60 originals.
Each painting of Kim's is thoroughly researched to ensure that every detail - whether it be architecture, landscape or wildlife - is captured precisely as it would be found in Mother Nature's domain. Painting predominately in acrylics, Kim complements his technical detail with skillful interplay of light and shadow. The result is subtle, yet powerful - vibrant, lifelike and compelling. Kim has also become well known for his use of hidden images within many of his paintings. He believes these hidden images can be conversation pieces for guests and can give families, adults and children alike something to enjoy together.
When they are not traveling, Kim and his wife Lori reside at their country home in central Minnesota, where his studio and gallery overlook beautiful wetlands, woods and farmland. They are proud parents of four grown children who have all helped within the family art business and they love to encourage their children and grandchildren to follow their dreams. As an artist, Kim believes all of creation is a reflection of God's glory and nothing is impossible with the Lord and His guidance in our lives. It is his hope and prayer that his artwork will continue to be a source of encouragement to others around the world.
