Lisa Hilliker has spent all her life in northern Vermont. Surrounded by natural beauty and abundant wildlife, it is not surprising that both have become sources of inspiration for her. "I love animals and nature. Old barns are so beautiful, I just had to use them to produce my artwork".
Hilliker has been creating art since she was a small child. Early teachers included her artistic mother and grandmother, and an extraordinarily talented eighth grade teacher. From there she has learned from other artists and let her powers of observation guide her. "When it's time for something to be painted, it makes itself known. One just has to open to the vibes" she says.
After Lisa selects the right piece of barn board for a project, she sands it and gives it a base coat of paint. She then paints, working primarily in acrylics, and finishes the piece with an antiquing process and final protective coat of varnish.
Lisa works from a studio in her home, often with her cat, a favorite muse, at her side.
